A 10 Days Regional Food and Wine Program with Chef Eric Arrouzé

Elan travel and Chef Eric Arrouzé are pleased to offer a unique 10 days cultural, food and wine program in Alsace, France. You will visit one of the most prestigious French culinary regions for wine and food lovers. Chef Eric will take you on an amazing and unique cultural and gastronomic journey through the world-famous vineyards and cellars of Alsace from Colmar to Strasbourg. You will get plunged to breathtaking beauty of Alsace, a land of exceptional gastronomy between Colmar and Strasbourg where you will settle in for a few days in a fully renovated 17th century Alsatian farm conveniently located to enjoy the best that the region has to offer. Finally, you will finish your journey in Strasbourg and will become a Strasbourgeois for a couple of days.
While at the farm house, Chef Eric will conduct three hands-on cooking classes on site, where you will prepare and enjoy multi-course Alsatian meals with wine pairings.
Explore the cuisine and wine of Alsace, with its blend of French and German influences. Learn to create dishes such as foie gras canapés, tarte flambée forestière (Flammenkuche), and apple tart with kirsch crème anglaise. Leave with an expanded knowledge of Alsatian wines and sample some of the world's most esteemed French white and lesser-known red wines.
During the program’s daily workshops you will learn the art of wine tasting and a systematic approach to evaluating wines. Participants in this program will also discover the best locations to purchase rare and high-end French wines.
This program will also embrace the extremely rich cultural heritage and history of Alsace which includes visits to wine makers, vineyards, caves, chateaux, villages and UNESCO World Heritage cultural destinations, with plenty of time reserved for wine tastings.
This is a rare opportunity to discover an amazing region, extremely rich in food, wines, history and culture. You will sample the most elite Alsatian wines, French gastronomy at its best and meet passionate food producers, farmers, vintners, wine producers and local sommeliers.
Day 1: Afternoon arrival in Colmar. Chef Eric will greet participants in the afternoon with a flute of Cremant d’Alsace. Explore the historical center, the extensive pedestrian precinct where strolling through picturesque streets and passages is a pleasure. Visit to the historical district and "the petite Venise". Overnight in Colmar.
Day 2: Discover Eguisheim; a picturesque Alsatian jewel ranked the Most Beautiful Villages of 2013. Cradle of the Alsace "Grand Cru" vineyards, wrapped in concentric narrow streets lined with half-timbered houses and rich floral decoration. Its numerous courts, fountains and churches all contribute to the historic personality of the village. Lunch in Eguisheim. Wine producer visit and Grand Cru tasting. Overnight in Colmar.
Day 3: Departure for the heart of the Alsace Wine Route, the Riquewihr - Ribeauvillé region. Discover quintessential villages, hilly landscapes blanketed with vines, medieval castles, winegrowers, guardians of centuries-old traditions, and soils ranking among the most renowned in Alsace. Alsatian lunch in Riquewihr. Visit to one of the most beautiful villages in the country, walk the steep and narrow streets adorned with fascinating architecture. Wine tasting in a cave nearby that has produced exceptional Riesling since 1639. Overnight in Ribeauvillé.
Day 4: Leisure morning. Lunch in Ribeauvillé. Visit to an Alsatian wine producer (Alsace AOC, Crémant d'Alsace AOC, Selection of Grains Nobles, Late Harvest) with tasting. Afternoon arrival at the 17th century Alsatian farm where we will settle in for 5 nights. The totally restored farm house was constructed in 1620 and is located in the heart of Alsace. Reception dinner at the farm house.
Day 5: Leisure morning. Depart for the "Route de La Choucroute" from Meistratzheim to Krautergersheim. Gastronomic visit. Guided visit of a Choucrouterie factory. Departure for Obernai. Guided visit of a premier distillery operating since 1850 with tasting of Eau de Vie, Marc d'Alsace Millesime Late harvest Gewurztraminer and Alsatian Whisky. Regroup in Obernai at a Salon de Thé Patisserie. Visit the historical district of Obernai. Overnight at the farm house.
Day 6: Visit and grocery shopping at a local farmer’s market with tastings. Lunch at the village. Leisure afternoon at the farm house. Food and wine of Alsace cooking class dinner. Overnight at the farm house.
Day 7: Departure for the Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg. Nearby lunch. Visit to the medieval Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg, one of the most popular monuments in France. Built in the 12th century, the Castle occupied a strategic position with a stunning view over Alsace. Food and wine of Alsace cooking class dinner. Overnight at the farm house.
Day 8: Departure for Strasbourg through the northern route des vins. Lunch en route. Visit to a renowned brewery museum factory with beer tasting. Overnight in Strasbourg.
Day 9: Walk to La Petite France neighborhood, a serene collection of cobblestone roads, fine restaurants and medieval buildings. Alsatian lunch in the historical district. Guided tours of Strasbourg on a river boat. Tea time in a world-renowned Patisserie. (Optional) Dinner in a Michelin-starred restaurant. Overnight in Strasbourg.
Day 10: Hotel check out by 11 am and end of the program.
The fee is CAD$7500 for a single room or a double room and includes:
- 9 breakfasts in minimum 3*hotels or equivalent. (4 self-catered at the farm house)
- 8 light lunches (plat du jour) in restaurants.
- Workshops and multiple wine tastings.
- Reception dinner at the farm house.
- 2 multi-course dinner cooking class with wine tasting.
- Transportation during the program, starting in Colmar and ending in Strasbourg.
(Participants will travel in a rented van).
- Daily cultural visits and tastings of local food delicacies.
- Visits to vineyards with wine tastings.
- Visits to numerous national, cultural heritage and UNESCO sites.
- Airfare is not included and may be purchased through our partner Elan travel.

Deposit and Payment of Fees
50% deposit with a non-refundable deposit of $2000 is required with your preliminary application. The remaining balance is due by June 25, 2017. Booking after that date, is 100% of cost upfront.
No refunds will be issued after June 25, 2017.
*Fees for this program are subject to change without notice based on the currency exchange rate or other reasons beyond Chef Eric's control. Some restrictions may apply. We reserve the right to change dates, itineraries, carriers, institutions and tour guides for this program. A standard release form must be signed by all participants.
Applicants must be at least 19 years of age. Applicants will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis, provided that the $2000 deposit is submitted with the registration form. Final acceptance is conditional upon receipt of the remaining balance and written agreement to program conditions. Please do not make travel arrangements until the program has been confirmed by Chef Eric Arrouzé.
